Andrew Dominik, o realizador de One More Time With Feeling com Nick Cave como protagonista, refere uma importante função da arte e da ficção:
«I think the function of narrative, or the function of fiction is to make sense of things that are incomprehensible. I think that the instinct behind all art, I mean, we live in a chaotic situation and we ascribe meaning to it just like telling ourselves a story. What's going on in both the film [One More Time With Feeling] and the record [Skeleton Tree] is that narrative has been abandoned, in favor of a direct collision of images and words, which is what poetry is. I'm not sure that the film really has a narrative. It's supposed to be an experience» (Noisey 13.9.2016).
Ao fim ao cabo, uma biblioteca, uma galeria, uma sala de concertos, uma igreja, um comício, uma causa, um livro, uma canção, um poema, entre outros espaços de vida, partilham uma função primordial: oferta de uma narrativa com significado, que faça sentido e seja compreensível. Torna-se num auxílio para encontrarmos o sentido da existência, o contraponto luminoso com o absurdo e o sofrimento existenciais, e nos sentirmos em paz e equilíbrio.
