Will Henry está na Madeira para a estreia do filme Lost Jewel of the Atlantic, produzido por si e pela Save the Waves. Aqui ficam as declarações no dia da ante-estreia, em solo madeirense, em mais um exclusivo do Olho de Fogo:

Olho de Fogo: Como é estar de volta à Madeira, desta vez para estrear o filme Jóia Perdida do Atlântico? (How do you feel being back to Madeira, this time to premiere Lost Jewel of the Atlantic?)
Will Henry: A vingança é doce, mesmo que se trate de uma pequena vitória. O que aconteceu no Jardim do Mar foi um crime escusado contra a natureza, que causará danos à aldeia do Jardim do Mar por muitos anos. Os responsáveis pela muralha sentir-se-ão, com certeza, culpados pelo que fizeram a este lugar. Estrear o filme na Madeira irá aumentar a consciência de quanto injusto foi este projecto para os habitantes da ilha.
Revenge is sweet, no matter how small a victory it might be. What happened here in Jardim do Mar was an inexcusable crime against nature that will hurt the village of Jardim do Mar for years to come. Those responsible for the seawall most certainly will feel a great deal of guilt for what they did to this place, and bringing the film to the island will only heighten awareness of how huge an injustice this project was to the people of the island.

OF: O que gosta mais no filme Jóia Perdida do Atlântico? (What do you like best in Lost Jewel of the Atlantic?)
WH: Pessoalmente, gosto da história sobre a descoberta do surf na ilha e de quanto extraordinário e mágico foi este lugar durante os anos anteriores à muralha. É claro que esta parte do filme apenas acentua o desastre imposto a esta pequena aldeia, por um governo cujos interesses em mente não eram os mesmos dos residentes e visitantes.
Personally, I like the story it tells about the discovery of surfing on the island, and how extraordinary and magical this place was during the years before the wall. Of course, this segment of the film only accentuates the disaster imposed upon this small village, by a government that had interests in mind other than those of the residents and visitors.

OF: Algumas pessoas, inicialmente, pensaram que Jóia Perdida do Atlântico seria uma espécie de acção egoísta a pensar apenas no aspecto desportivo, o surf. (At the beginning some people thought Lost Jewel of the Atlantic was a kind of selfish work only about surf.)
WH: O filme é, basicamente, sofre o surf, mas também sobre um lugar muito especial para surfar, que era único no mundo, e a sua consequente destruição. Egoísta ou não, os surfistas foram as únicas pessoas com "tomates" suficientes para enfrentar o governo e, talvez, entre os poucos que compreenderam quanto radical seria a mudança na aldeia devido à construção. A importância do surf, no entanto, é um exemplo perfeito de como o governo prestou pouca atenção a quaisquer vozes discordantes. O governo simplesmente esmagou a oposição que se fez sentir. O surf estava perdido, mas também a beleza da aldeia estava severamente comprometida.
Essentially the film is mostly about surf, but about a very special place to surf that was completely unique in the world, and its subsequent destruction. Selfish or not, surfers were the only people with enough guts to stand up against the government, and perhaps some of the few who really understood how drastically the village would change due to the construction. The importance of the surf, however, is a perfect example of how little attention the government paid to any voices of dissention. They simply steamrolled the opposition. The surf was lost, but also the village´s beauty was severely compromised.

OF: O presidente do Governo Regional, há alguns dias, insinuou que haveriam razões sombrias, não declaradas, para se gastar tanto dinheiro num território pequeno e pobre como a Madeira, para mostrar um filme - ver aqui. WH: A Save the Waves é uma organização de conservação da natureza e é tudo. O nosso maior desafio nesta questão foi evitar a politização que, apesar de todos os nossos esforços, não conseguimos. Qualquer voz discordante ou crítica na Madeira é transformada num ataque político. Se o partido governante tivesse parado e ouvido os nossos argumentos, que pediam um simples compromisso, talvez tivessemos conseguido evitar a danificação das ondas. Não temos outra agenda além da preservação da beleza natural do litoral.
Save the Waves is a conservation organization and that is all. Our biggest challenge in this issue was to stay out of political arguments, which despite our best efforts, we failed to do. Every voice of dissent in Madeira is twisted by the government into a political attack. If the ruling party had stopped and actually listened to our arguments, which asked for a simple compromise, we might have actually managed to preserve the waves from harm. We have no agenda other than to preserve the natural beauty of the coastline.
