Expectador do Hawaii diz o que viu no Lost Jewel [bilingual text]

Lost Jewel of the Atlantic, o filme-documentário sobre o surf e a Madeira produzido pela Save the Waves Coalition, foi apresentado no dia 17 de Novembro em Haleiwa, no Hawaii.

A apresentação do filme contou com 100 pessoas e fez parte do programa da ASP (Associação de Profissionais de Surf). Um dos espectadores, Matthew Mitchell, fez o seguinte comentário: "É notável quanto semelhante me parece a Madeira ao Hawaii. Tão bonita e com tanto para oferecer às pessoas que adoram o oceano. Ver o que o governo [regional] fez à costa marítima partiu o meu coração. Aqui no Hawaii o nosso surf e a nossa costa são o nosso tesouro mais precioso."

Estas palavras "provam" duas coisas: 1. Lost Jewel of the Atlantic é um filme que canta e promove as belezas da nossa ilha - é pró Madeira -, como já tínhamos sublinhado anteriormente, aquando da estreia na Região (a reacção irada do Governo Regional ao filme foi precipitada e intempestiva); 2. Mostra os erros (factos à vista de todos) que se fizeram na costa, nomeadamente no Jardim do Mar, Lugar de Baixo ou Ponta Delgada, os casos documentados no filme.

O filme continua a ser apresentado em festivais antes de ser editado em DVD, na Primavera de 2007, segundo as previsões da Save the Waves Coalition.

Lost Jewel of the Atlantic, the documentary film produced by Save the Waves Coalition on Madeira and its surf scene, was screened on November 17th in Hawaii.

The showing was attended by 100 people, and was part of the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) tour schedule. One moviegoer, Matthew Mitchell, made the following comment: "It's remarkable how similar Madeira looks to my home of Hawaii, so beautiful and with so much to offer people who love the ocean. It broke my heart to see what the government did to the coastline. Here in Hawaii, our surf and our coastline is our most valuable treasure."

These words "prove" two things: 1. Lost Jewel of the Atlantic is a film about the beauty of Madeira island and promotes this tourist destination, as we have stressed before (the Madeira Government reaction to the film was hasty and unaware); 2. It shows the mistakes (facts that all people can see by themselves) that were done in the coastline, namely in Jardim do Mar, Lugar de Baixo or Ponta Delgada, the cases documented by the film.

The film is expected to be released in DVD format next Spring.
